2005-2006  Philips Lighting - INC / HAL / CFL Competency Center, Monterrey, NL México

                 Senior CC Manager  and Consultant

Participant in the senior level decisions of the INC/HAL/CFL Competency Center. Responsible for activities that introduce new products and new technology and for the successful implementation of Strategic and Cost Improvement Projects. Developed a welding system for PRTR Lamps using robots and “intelligent” servo-actuated welders.

1999 -date Entrepreneur

Industrial Automation. Incorporated three high tech companies to develop solutions with robots, vision systems and other state of the art technologies to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of manufacturing operations. Designed and developed over 38 industrial automation systems to inspect, sort and manipulate engine heads, engine blocks, automotive break lamp assemblies, automotive lamp cover, beer bottles, refreshment bottles, brake handles, medical needles and syringes, electric motor laminates and others. Customers include top automotive and auto-part manufacturers.

Subcontract Manufacturing. Created two subcontract debur and weld-assembly operations in Mexico to supply two important US and Canadian firms.

Health & Wellness. Incorporated an international franchise to distribute farmaceutical grade state of the art nutritional products to increase quality of life and prevent degenerative diseases. Currently active in multiple states of Mexico and USA.

1997-1999 Techmatec, Garza García, NL México

                 Sales & Marketing Director

Responsible for leading customer teams to the most efficient and cost effective solutions, generating project specification, participating with the engineering team to develop conceptual designs, marketing, shows, and sales.  Customers include top three OEM and first tier automotive suppliers, electric motor manufacturers, and well known manufacturer of large carbide rods.  Applications include machining, material handling, gantry robots, parts washing, parts drying and machine loading.

1994-1997 Motorman, Inc, West Carrollton, Ohio USA

                 Mexico Business Manager

Responsible for startup of Yaskawa Motoman in México and for Direct Sales of Industrial Robotic Solutions. Led client teams and multidisciplinary engineering teams to specify and develop robotic industrial automation. Developed key accounts in all of Mexico and lower Texas. Customers include Top 3 and first tier automotive as well as truck, glass and electronic assembly plants. Applications include casting, welding, plasma cutting, hot melt application, water jet cutting and machine loading. Personally designed an innovative robot aluminum casting cell for a leading engine head manufacturer. The system solved important maintenance issues and provided a 60% increase in productivity per sq ft.

1993-1994  Tecnológico de Monterrey, Manufacturing Systems Center, Garza García, NL México

                  Research Faculty, Consultant, Educator.

Using a “hands on” approach taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in manufacturing, robotics, mechatronics and computational geometry. Started the first Robot Integrated Manufacturing Research facility in Mexico and Latin America with a multidisciplinary mentality funded in part by Sun Microsystems. Consultant to a big three and first tier automotive supplier and a leading mining company in Mexico. Candidate to the Mexican National Research Society (SNI)

1985-1993  Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA USA

                  Research Assistant

Research in mobile robots, advanced perception, active sensor placement and geometric reasoning.  Participated in the efforts of two important multidisciplinary research centers the Engineering Design Research Center and the Field Robotics Center resulting in DANTE – an 8 legged robot that entered a live volcano in Antarctica and ASE – Autonomous Simultaneous Engineering. Early work in geometric reasoning resulted in “The Disassembly Expert” – a computer system that used 2D and 3D geometry to reason strategies to disassemble and assemble mechanical objects. Launched initiative to promote “teaching through hands on experimentation” and cross-university collaboration.
